Engadget feeds report too many redirects

UPDATE: The workaround mentioned below does not work. The next release will include a different workaround for the engadget problem that does require users to make any configuration changes.

The Engadget feed servers are refusing connections from DoggCatcher. A temporary workaround is to edit your user-agent preference and enter the following:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-us; dream)

BOL (CNET) podcasts show up as news article

Summary: CNET is aware of the issue and they are working on it

I have noticed that occasionally some of my podcasts (it seems to be specifically cnet podcasts) show up as if they are news feeds rather than audio podcasts. It doesn't happen all the time, and it seems as though I'll occasionally have items in the feed change from downloadable podcasts to "news items". This is quite frustrating. I can't seem to figure out why it does this.

Version 1.1.1091 released

A new release has just been published to the market.

This release is focused around splitting the audio playlists away from the news/video.

There are also some minor changes bug fixes.

  • 0000075: [Playlists] Add a time ordered playlist (no grouping) - closed.
  • 0000313: [News Reader] Improved display of news items - closed.
  • 0000328: [Miscellaneous] Place icons on each screen header (with similar size/style) to help from getting lost - closed.
  • 0000312: [Playlists] Separate audio playlists from new/video - closed.

Version 1.1.1034 released

A new release has just been published to the market.

This release fixes a bug that causes force close errors when starting the app on some Sprint Heroes.

  • 0000321: [Bug] Force close on Sprint Hero when starting app after 1030 update - closed

Version 1.1.1030 released

Update: I have a fix coming for Sprint Hero users tonight

A new release has just been published to the market.

This release is focused around the addition of global preferences for feeds. So you can now set defaults for auto-downloads, max-items, and auto-delete policy. Feeds can be configured to use the new global preference

There are also some minor changes bug fixes.

  • 0000030: [Feeds/Items] Global options for Podcast level parameters (max downloads, max to display, etc) - closed.
  • 0000291: [Feeds/Items] Updated recommendations warning - closed.

Version 1.1.973 released

A new release has just been published to the market.

This release is focused around the keep-alive notification and some bug fixes.

I'm now working on global settings for some of the feed options (max items, max downloads, auto-delete policy). This will allow you to configure feeds to use the global settings rather than repeatedly entering the same values in the feed options. The beta testers will be getting this in the next few days.

The global settings will be released initially in experimental form, but we should have most of the issues worked out by then.

DoggCatcher in Sprint Hero Market - more

Update: I released a new version to the market and removed copy protection

I did this after successful testing of an upgrade from the copy protected version to the new non copy protected version on a 1.5 handset.

I also confirmed with mobilehavoc that DoggCatcher became visible in the Sprint Hero market. Today I stopped by a verizon store and confirmed that DoggCatcher is now in available on the Eris market.

This seems to be pretty good evidence that the copy protection was hiding apps from some phone's markets.

DoggCatcher in Sprint Hero Market

UPDATE: more details here - http://www.snoggdoggler.com/node/486

I have had multiple reports that DoggCatcher is no longer visible in the Sprint Hero Market after the recent OTA update, and I'm pretty sure that DoggCatcher has never been available in the Eris Market.

I have a ticket opened with Google regarding the Eris Market. I'll be watching the developer groups closely to see what develops and I'll report back.
